Plan your kitchen layout before choosing finishes

Make the kitchen work before you finalize the look.

Cabinet color cannot fix an awkward appliance location. Start with the room, the people using it, and the products you intend to install, then develop a coordinated finish package.

Map the everyday tasks

Identify where groceries arrive, meals are prepared, dishes are washed, and small appliances live. Use those activities to test the arrangement. A large island is not automatically useful if it blocks the route between essential work areas.

Check openings and circulation

Use actual appliance dimensions and manufacturer clearances. Review door and drawer swings alongside circulation around the island. Avoid relying on an inspiration photo to establish the space required for your appliances and cabinetry.

Choose finishes as an assembly

Compare cabinet samples, counters, backsplash, flooring, and hardware together. Decide which surface leads and which ones support it. Several strong patterns can compete, especially in a kitchen visible from the main living space.

Connect design and construction

Full Set Designs can help with the finish direction and scope project-specific design services. Moving walls, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical systems introduces technical work beyond a palette. Resolve those changes with the project team before final installation documents and ordering.

A common question

Should I choose cabinets or countertops first?

Develop the layout first, then evaluate cabinets and countertops together. If one material is a must-have, use it as the anchor and compare the remaining finishes against a physical sample.
